All the possible savings on pension that Govt might have envisaged would get wiped out because of all these protests, vandalism and destruction of public property. That’s why it’s so important to think through all decisions and not make it like a political event. If Govt would have made necessary budgetary allocations and stepped away from this decision and had Armed forces make the announcement, things might not have taken such an ugly turn. However it’s hard to resist the lure of political opportunism that can translate into votes. The moment scheme of this nature is announced as the great one initiated by the great minds in the Govt especially Modiji … you are obviously inviting this into the public discourse and making that decision very political. That generally will have many detractors and protests will follow suit. Any decision that Govt takes needs to made in consultation with stakeholders, we saw that in case of Farm Laws too and many other initiatives by the Govt. All this loss of public property could have been avoided had the Govt not started taking premature credit for this “visionary” scheme that was announced without any consultation with the affected parties.
